What is hempcrete?
Hempcrete is a highly energy-efficient and eco-friendly building material that can reduce the running costs of your home. Together with solar passive design and double glazing, Hempcrete is one of the best insulating materials on the Australian market. Imagine not having to turn on your air conditioner!

Hempcrete is made from the inner woody core (or ’shiv’) of the hemp plant mixed with a lime-based binder. This creates a lightweight, permeable, insulating material superior to concrete. It can be applied to a lightweight timber structure and rendered or painted once cured.
Hempcrete can be applied in situ or by mechanical spray. In situ installation can be labour-intensive, as it involves vertical layering of the product. However, it creates a visually attractive finish. Hempcrete has a very organic, relaxing and earthy appeal when left exposed. It’s a fantastic feature that pleases the eye in any home.
Applying Hempcrete using a mechanical spray is more efficient as it can be applied directly to walls. Only one side of the wall needs to be sprayed, saving waste, time and labour. Mechanically sprayed Hempcrete is usually finished with a render and then painted. Rendering with lime render creates a durable product with excellent thermal, sound and fire-resistant properties.

Homes by Nature uses the best hempcrete materials sourced from OzHemp. We install hempcrete using the only BCA-certified method in Australia. It carries a 5-year warranty when installed by a certified contractor.
Hempcrete is fire retardant and rated for BAL FZ (60-60-60).

Hempcrete does not contain volatile organic compounds. No chemicals are added during production and it does not release gases or toxins. It is hypoallergenic and does not trigger allergies or respiratory illnesses. Therefore, hempcrete is a safe building material for people and pets.
Hempcrete is also highly fire resistant, protecting you and your family. It will not spread in a contained environment and increases your escape time during a bushfire.
